Village fighting Cayuga Nation must pay own legal bills

The state of New York has cut off legal aid to the village of Union Springs, which is fighting the Cayuga Nation's land-into-trust applications.

The state is already footing the legal bills for Cayuga and Seneca counties. So the village is on its own, a lawyer said.

The Cayuga Nation wants a handful of its properties placed in trust. Under a settlement with the state, the tribe would limit its applications to no more than 10,000 acres.
