Ex-Prairie Band chairwoman explains resignation

Tracy Stanhoff, the former chairwoman of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation of Kansas, resigned last month after 18 months on the job.

Stanhoff said she left because she accomplished her goals. During her tenure, the tribe completed its takeover of its casino, began pushing for a casino in Illinois and negotiated an agreement to a car tag dispute with the state.

"I finished the job and decided it was a good time for me to leave," Stanhoff told Indian Country Today.

The resignation was the tribe's second leadership shakeup in two years. In January 2006, former chairman Zach Pahmahmie resigned unexpectedly.
