Lawyer wants to send Native youth to GOP camp

Reid LeBeau, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, says there's a place for Native Americans in the Republican Party.

To prove it, he established a scholarship to send Native youth to the annual Teenage Republican camp in South Dakota. He wants to pay the cost for one or more to attend the meeting.

"We sent a couple of kids last year and again this year, and we’re looking at endowing it," LeBeau, a lawyer in Minneapolis, told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader.

The fund is named in honor of Ben Reifel, a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe who was the first Sioux to serve in the U.S. Congress.
