More Native children being abused and neglected

More and more Native American children are being abused and neglected, an advocate in northeastern Oklahoma says.

Jo Prout, the executive director for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Cherokee Country, says 76 percent of her cases involve Native children. She said the number of abuse and neglect cases has grown "exponentially" since she began working.

CASA of Cherokee Country advocates for children in the Cherokee Nation courts and two county courts. It's the largest of nine tribal CASA agencies in the U.S. The second-largest is the Creek Nation's CASA program.
