Hopi Tribe fights lawsuit over ouster of chairman

The Hopi Tribe of Arizona is seeking to dismiss a lawsuit filed by ousted Chairman Ben Nuvamsa.

Nuvamsa filed suit in tribal court against several tribal council members after he was removed from office in May. Vice Chairman Todd Honyaoma Sr., who voted to oust Nuvamsa, said the case should be dismissed because the tribe can't be sued without its consent.

The tribal court has temporarily reinstated Nuvamsa. A hearing on the tribe's motion to dismiss has not been scheduled.
