'Middle Ground' project trains Navajo teachers

A $2 million, five-year project aims to train educators on the Navajo Nation how to teach history and civics in a culturally relevant way.

The Middle Ground Project is based at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. The goal is to find the "middle ground" between U.S. history and civics and Navajo history and civics.

A group of 29 teachers -- including 23 Navajos -- have been in Denver all week as part of the project. Eventually, 125 instructors will be trained.
