Yakama Nation to celebrate treaty of 1855

The Yakama Nation of Washington will be celebrating its June 9, 1855, treaty with the United States.

The tribe has scheduled three days of events for the 152nd annual Treaty Day commemoration. There will be a parade, a rodeo, a powwow, a wellness walk and the Miss Yakama Nation Pageant.

The treaty reserved the tribe's right to hunt, fish and gather. It also guaranteed free use of public highways to bring goods to market -- a provision that was recently upheld by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
