Idaho appoints Indian education coordinator

Mary Jane Oatman-Wak Wak, a member of the Nez Perce Tribe, has been named coordinator of Indian education for the state of Idaho.

Oatman-Wak Wak will work to improve achievement levels of Native students in public schools and will serve as a liaison to tribes. She was appointed by Superintendent of Schools Tom Luna, who created the position to fulfill a campaign promise.

Oatman-Wak Wak graduated from Lewis-Clark State College in 2006 and is completing her master's at the University of Idaho.
