Choctaw Nation assistant chief resigns post

Mike Bailey, the assistant chief of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, has resigned his post after 21 years serving the tribe.

Bailey resigned on Friday but no reason was given for his departure. He was appointed to his post by Chief Gregory Pyle.

Gary Batton, the head of the Choctaw Nation Health Services, was appointed as new assistant chief. He was confirmed by the council and sworn in to his post on Friday.

"Gary Batton is a young man of impeccable morals and ethics," said Chief Gregory E. Pyle. "He is one of the finest and brightest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I am sure that this is the best choice for the Choctaw Nation."
