Bush picks new head of Bureau of Land Management

President Bush has nominated James Caswell to head the Bureau of Land Management at the Interior Department.

Caswell currently runs Idaho's Office of Species Conservation. He has worked with Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne, the former governor of Idaho.

“I’ve known Jim Caswell personally and admire his ‘can do’ attitude, pragmatic leadership style and outstanding management skills,” Kempthorne said.

Caswell would replace Kathleen Clarke, who resigned in February. His position requires Senate confirmation.

BLM is responsible for cadastral surveys of Indian land. According to the department, the agency has a major backlog.
