Seneca Nation in the market for some tollbooths

The Seneca Nation of New York is serious about placing tollbooths on a state highway, President Maurice A. John Sr. said.

The tribe is looking to buy some used tollbooths to place on the portion of the State Thruway that runs through the Cattaraugus Reservation. The tribe has voided an easement that allowed the state to build the highway and is considering voiding another one.

The move comes amid the tribe's battle with New York Gov. Eliot L. Spitzer (D), who wants to collect cigarette and gasoline taxes on reservations.
