Artman sworn in as head of BIA in Washington


Carl Artman, a member of the Oneida Nation, was sworn in as the 10th assistant secretary for Indian Affairs at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne administered the oath of office to Artman, 42. Leaders and members of the Oneida Nation participated in the ceremony, offering blessings for the new leader of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Artman was confirmed by the Senate on March 5 by an 87-1 vote.
