Opening of Alaska Native charter school delayed

The Alaska Native Cultural Charter School in Anchorage won't be opening this fall as planned.

The school won approval to open as long as it recruited at least 150 students and brought its building up to code. The school hasn't had trouble finding students but the building issues are taking longer than expected.

So rather than rush the opening, the school will wait awhile. The school plans to emphasize Native culture and will bring elders to the classroom.
