Menominee Nation sued over $1M in BIA funds

The federal government sued the Menominee Nation of Wisconsin on Monday, alleging the tribe misused over $1 million in Bureau of Indian Affairs funds.

The lawsuit claims the tribe billed the BIA for fire suppression and roadwork but used the money for other purposes. It names the tribe's enterprise and two individuals as defendants.

The suit was filed under the False Claims Act, which allows the government to seek damages. The U.S. Attorney is asking for a jury trial.
