Film defends ex-officers who dumped Native man

A new documentary defends two former police officers who were convicted after dumping a Native man in the freezing cold in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Dan Hatchen and Ken Munson lost their jobs and spent six months in jail after Darrell Night came forward with his story. He was left in the cold in January 2000 on the same week when two other Native men were found frozen to death.

But writer Candis McLean, the maker of the "When Police Become Prey" documentary, says Hatchen and Munson were wrongly convicted. She said they were merely dropping Night off in a location close to his sister's home.

Hatchen is speaking publicly for the first time about the case. He blames the incident on "political correctness."

"If I was Native or if Darrell Night was white, how far would have this gone?" he told reporters.
