Cherokee veteran to be buried at Arlington cemetery

Billy Walkabout, a member of the Cherokee Nation who died last week at the age of 57, will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on March 26.

Walkabout served in the Vietnam War. He earned the Distinguished Service Cross, five Silver Stars, five Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart, and was considered the most decorated Native soldier of the war.

Walkabout was born in Oklahoma and spent most of his life there. He moved to Connecticut a few years ago after marrying Juanita Medbury-Walkabout, a member of the Mohegan Tribe. He died on March 7.
