White House OMB starts earmark database

The White House Office of Management and Budget unveiled a new website on Monday aimed at presenting data on appropriations earmarks.

The site, however, only presents limited information on earmarks . The White House is promising more details in the future.

According to the data, the Bureau of Indian Affairs had 24 earmarks totaling $32,176,000 in fiscal year 2005. Three were identified under "Construction" and 21 were identified under "Operation of Indian programs." No further information was provided.

Democrats stripped nearly every earmark out of the fiscal year 2007 budget. Some programs, such as technical assistance for the National American Indian Housing Council, were eliminated.
