A man from the Crow Reservation in Montana was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for a bizarre shooting incident.
Shannon Leon Yellowtail, 30, pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon. He admitting shooting Realand Whiteman, 28, in the leg on December 4, 2005.
The incident occurred after Yellowtail's truck was stolen. Inside was his young son, who was eventually recovered and was not harmed.
In hopes of arresting the theft suspect, Bureau of Indian Affairs and county police officers took Yellowtail to a home on the reservation where Whiteman had parked the truck. A fight broke out and Yellowtail, distraught and intoxicated over his missing son, shot Whiteman, who was not seriously injured.
