Raytheon to expand operation on Navajo Nation

Raytheon Co. is expanding its munitions manufacturing facility on the Navajo Nation.

Raytheon plans to add 100 jobs, doubling the size of the workforce at the Navajo Agricultural Products Industry facility in Upper Fruitland, New Mexico. The $6 million, 38,000-square-foot new building will be complete by September.

The cost of the project will be shared by the company, the tribe and the state of New Mexico. The state and the tribe will $4.5 million to construct the building, and Raytheon will spend $1.5 million to equip it. The company will lease the facility from the tribe for $135,000 a year.
