The Senate Indian Affairs Committee is holding a confirmation hearing this morning for Carl J. Artman, President Bush's nominee to head the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The committee will hear from Gerald Danforth, the president of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin. Artman is a member of the tribe.
Jackie Johnson, the executive director of the National Congress of American Indians, will also testify. NCAI has been supportive of Artman's nomination.
Finally, the committee will hear from Artman, who currently serves as assistant solicitor for Indian affairs at the Interior Department.
Immediately following the hearing, the committee will vote to advance Artman's nomination to the Senate floor.
The hearing starts at 9:30am. An Internet feed should be available at http://indian.senate.gov.
