Hopi Tribe holds special election for chairman

Members of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona went to the polls on Wednesday to elect a new chairman.

The special election was called due to the ouster of former chairman Ivan Sidney. He was removed by the tribal council for an alcohol-related incident off the reservation.

Fourteen people signed up to run for chairman. The candidates included Mary Felter, who hopes to be the first woman to lead the tribe.
