Former Rep. Ney faces sentence over Abramoff

Former Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio) will be sentenced in federal court today for his role in the Jack Abramoff scandal.

Ney pleaded guilty to a conspiracy to accept campaign contributions, trips, meals and other items in exchange for legislative factors. In one highly-publicized incident, he promised to help two Texas tribes reopen their casinos after using their money for his campaign and for a lavish trip to Scotland.

Federal prosecutors are seeking a 27-month sentence but it will up be to Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle in Washington, D.C., to decide his punishment.
