Dartmouth College in New Hampshire is drawing attention for apologizing for hosting a hockey tournament with the University of North Dakota "Fighting Sioux."
Dartmouth athletic director Josie Harper called UND's nickname "offensive and wrong" and apologized for recent incidents on campus that offended Indian students. Separately, Dartmouth President James Wright wrote a letter to the campus to apologize for �racist and insensitive" behavior.
On Columbus Day, a group of fraternity pledges interrupted a drum circle. The same fraternity printed up t-shirts depicting the school's old Indian mascot in a sexual activity. Athletes also hosted a �Cowboys, Indians and Barnyard Animals� party where some attendees dressed as Indians.
UND is on NCAA's list of schools with hostile and abusive mascots. The school has obtained a temporary injunction to continue using the "Sioux" name during tournaments while a lawsuit is being resolved.
Harvard University in Massachusetts is hosting a tournament with UND but doesn't plan to apologize to its Indian students.
