Navajo Nation voters re-elect Joe Shirley as president


Navajo Nation voters re-elected Joe Shirley Jr. to a second term on Tuesday, rejecting Linda Lovejoy, who wanted to be the first woman to lead the tribe.

According to the Associated Press, Shirley won with 53 percent of the vote. Lovejoy had 46 percent.

Shirley is the first Navajo leader to win consecutive terms since former chairman Peter MacDonald in the 1980s.
