Comment period extended on rights-of-way report

The comment period on the energy rights-of-way report in Indian Country has been extended to September 30.

The Interior Department and the Energy Department issued the report earlier this month. They also scheduled four public meetings, the last of which is being held at the Carlisle Hotel in Albuquerque on Wednesday.

The report was authorized by the National Energy Policy Act of 2005. The provision, known as Section 1813, was written after the energy industry tried to persuade Congress to authorize rights-of-way without tribal consent.
