Pechanga Band removes another family from roll
Monday, August 21, 2006

The Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians is removing another large family from the tribal roll.

Lawrence Madariaga, 89, is the oldest man who lives on the reservation. But he and about 100 members of his family were told last week that they do not meet the criteria for tribal membership.

"Since the disenrollment, I have been told that the clinic, the same reservation clinic that I worked so hard to build, will no longer care for me or provide me with medical service," he said in a statement.

The successful gaming tribe has removed more than 200 people from its roll in the past few years.
