Native activists who are camped out at sacred Bear Butte are awaiting the arrival of thousands of bikers for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Tribal members are calling attention to the growing encroachment of the butte. They are trying to stop bars and other venues from destroying the sanctity of a place used for prayers and ceremonies.

The Meade County Commission has approved liquor and beer licenses for venues near the sacred mountain. Tribal activists are trying to overturn the decision but have had a tough time in and out of court.

The rally runs August 7-13.
