Ralph Reed fights for future amid Abramoff scandal

Conservative Republican activist Ralph Reed is about to find out whether his ties to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff will cost him his political future.

Reed entered the race for lieutenant governor of Georgia with high hopes. Republicans believed he was a shoo-in to win the party's nomination.

Then the Abramoff scandal broke. Reed's poll numbers dipped after the investigation linked him to gaming tribes despite his avowed opposition to gaming.

State Sen. Casey Cagle has made an issue of Abramoff during the campaign. He has since raised as much money as Reed and has seen his poll numbers rise.

The primary is Tuesday.
