Navajo council considers sharing driving records

The Navajo Nation Council is considering a bill that would allow the tribe to share driving records with the states of New Mexico, Arizona and Utah.

The bill would set up an agreement to allow tribal records to be recognized in state courts. That could mean harsher sentences for people who have drunk driving convictions on the Navajo Nation.

Supporters of the proposal include President Joe Shirley Jr., who lost a daughter to a drunken driver.
