State AG to probe shooting of Ramapough man

The New Jersey Attorney General's Office announced a probe of four state park police officers whose scuffle with members of the Ramapough Lenape Indian Nation led to a shooting that has kept a man in the hospital in critical condition.

The state will determine whether the officers acted properly and whether they had jurisdiction. The Bergen County prosecutor has already said the officers weren't on state land and failed to notify local police, who enjoy a working relationship with the tribe.

Emil A. Mann, whose age has been reported as 43, 44 and 45, was critically shot in the incident Saturday morning. Tribal members and leaders said the police action was unwarranted.
