Tulalip Tribes to submit audits on housing program

The Tulalip Tribes of Washington stand to regain nearly $9 million in federal housing grants after submitting audits to the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The tribe was suspended after a HUD investigation found misuse of federal funds. The former director of the housing authority later pleaded guilty to embezzlement.

Once the grants are restored, the housing authority can fulfill the needs of tribal members. There are 178 families on a waiting list for rental housing and 71 families on a list for a low-income homeownership program.
