Bolivia's new Indian president now a fashion icon

Evo Morales made history when he was the first Indian to be elected as president of Bolivia. Now he's starting a new trend with his casual, Indian-inspired fashions.

Replicas of Morales' famous striped sweaters are selling like hotcakes in Bolivia, The New York Times reports. Morales wears one made of alpaca, a traditionally herded animal. He wore it in his meetings with heads of state around the world.

For his inauguration, Morales wore an Aymara-inspired outfit designed by Bolivian fashion designer Beatriz Canedo Patio. She made the jacket and pants from baby alpaca and embroidered it with an Indian symbol.

For fashionistas who can't make it to Bolivia, the BoliviaMall website is selling Evo alpaca sweaters and Evo t-shirts with the theme "A Sovereign Makes History."
