Ojibwe woman seeks to lead library association


Loriene Roy, a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe, has launched her campaign to be the first American Indian president of the American Library Association.

Roy is a professor of library and information science at the University of Texas School of Information. She founded If I Can Read, I Can Do Anything, a national reading club for Indian children. If elected, she hopes to draw more attention to Indian communities.

Roy attended the Oregon Institute of Technology and earned a master's in library science from the University of Arizona and her Ph.D in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
