Sen. Burns wants name cleared in Abramoff probe
Wednesday, December 7, 2005

Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Montana) wrote to U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales last month, asking the Department of Justice to clear his name as part of the Jack Abramoff investigation.
"I welcome your thorough and expeditious review of this matter so that it may be disposed of officially once and for all and these outrageous and wrongful allegations may be put to rest before we get into the 2006 re-election cycle," Burns wrote on November 28, the Associated Press reported.
Burns has been linked to Abramoff several times. He accepted $150,000 from Abramoff's clients, the most of any member of the House or Senate. He took positions favorable to Abramoff's clients, including tribes and the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. territory overseen by the Interior Department.
Burns denies any wrongdoing. He said he hasn't been contacted by federal investigators and that he hasn't received any subpoenas.
