Ron Volesky, a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, announced his bid for governor of South Dakota.

Volesky is an attorney and a Democrat. He is making education and tax reform a priority of his campaign. He said large corporations aren't paying enough taxes to the state.

Volesky previously sought the Democratic nomination for governor in 2002 and ran for attorney general against Republican Larry Long. He lost both times.

If he wins the Democratic nomination this time, he would go up against incumbent Gov. Mike Rounds, a Republican. Rounds enjoys support among some tribal leaders for seeking to improve better relations with tribes.
