Judge holds hearing on status of longtime tribal lawyer


A federal judge in Nevada held a show cause hearing on Thursday to determine what to do about the longtime attorney for the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.

Robert "Bob" Pelcyger has represented the tribe for 30 years on water rights and other issues in Nevada. But he hasn't had an active license to practice law in the state, and may have never applied for one, according to news reports. His licenses in other states have lapsed although he has since asked for a federal court license in Nevada and his license is California has been changed to active.

Pelcyger [Bio] also took two cases to the Supreme Court on behalf of the Crow Tribe of Montana. One case was argued before 1993 while the second was argued after 1993. He has represented numerous other tribal clients, including the Northern Arapaho Tribe, the Tohono O�odham Nation and the Fort Mojave Tribe.
