Judge agrees to move tribal member's murder trial
Tuesday, August 23, 2005

A judge in Wyoming agreed to move the first-degree murder trial of a Northern Arapaho man who is accused of abusing and killing his 22-month-old daughter.

Andrew Yellowbear's sought a change in venue, saying that anti-Indian bias and bias among members of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe could taint the jury. Seventh District Judge David Park agreed and moved the trial.

Yellowbear faces the death penalty for the murder of Marcella Hope Yellowbear, who died July 3, 2004. Macalia Blackburn, Marcella's mother, has pleaded guilty to being an accessory to second-degree murder and will testify against Yellowbear.
