A federal judge approved a plan to allow the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation of Connecticut to submit more evidence as part of its federal recognition bid, The Hartford Courant reports.

The tribe hopes to prove its case by submitting additional evidence about marriage rates that had been miscalculated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The state of Connecticut opposes the plan but U.S. District Judge Peter Dorsey already approved it last week.

Separately, the tribe is being allowed to take discovery in hopes of showing that local officials violated a court order against lobbying the Interior Department. The town of Kent hired the Republican firm of Barbour Griffith and Rogers to fight the tribe's case.
