Abramoff previously questioned over billing

Disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff was once the subject of internal government audits that questioned the cost and benefit of his services, the Associated Press reports.

Abramoff was paid at least $6.7 million by the Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands over a seven-year period. But auditors from the island said "may have in the past paid more than it needed to for lobbyist services" and that $1.2 million paid to Abramoff's old law firm was "not adequately supported," the AP reported.

Abramoff's billing to several tribes is also being questioned by Congressional and federal investigators. His most recent law firm has agreed to refund some of the money to the Tigua Tribe of Texas and the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan.
