Report: Navajo Boys & Girls Club charter revoked

The non-profit Boys and Girls Club of Navajo Inc. has lost its charter, The Gallup Independent reports.

"The organization has been closed," a vice president of the national Boys and Girls Clubs of America said. "They were not meeting membership requirements."

The Navajo Boys & Girls clubs have been shut down since December due to a funding dispute between the non-profit and Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. A temporary agreement was signed but no money has been released to the clubs.

Shirley is taking over the clubs to make them a part of the tribal government.
