Peltier cuts ties with Aquash murder defendant

The defense committee for imprisoned American Indian Movement activist Leonard Peltier cut ties with a Canadian man accused of murdering fellow activist Anna Mae Pictou Aquash.

Peltier previously issued statements of support for the two men charged with Aquash's murder on the Pine Ridge Reservation in December 1975. He had said the government had put AIM, including himself, on trial when the first defendant, Arlo Looking Cloud, went to court.

But last week, lawyers for the second man, John Graham, introduced an affidavit that suggested Peltier lied to federal investigators in Aquash's case. Graham is fighting extradition from Canada to the U.S. for the murder. A decision is pending.
