California's only tribal college faces rocky future

Students and faculty at California's only tribal college returned to campus last week to learn that D-Q University lost its accreditation.

Many were upset that the decision came after faculty had already been hired and students were enrolled. Some may call for the resignation of the school's administration and board members.

The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges terminated D-Q's accreditation effective immediately. The blow came as the college struggles with its finances. The Bureau of Indian Affairs cut funding due to declining Indian student enrollment and the Department of Education was investigating alleged mismanagement.

The college was founded in 1971.
