Kickapoo Tribe sues former chairman, lawyer

The Kickapoo Tribe of Texas is suing its former chairman and former lawyer, saying the two stole funds after being removed from power two years ago.

The tribe says former chairman Raul Garza and attorney Joe Ruiz took at least $370,000. The suit names the South Texas National Bank for giving the money to the men.

Garza was ousted in October 2002 after tribal members voiced widespread dissatisfaction with his leadership. He was called to testify in the trial of a former employee who was convicted of embezzling almost $260,000 from the tribe.
