Mashantucket Tribe and town at odds over water

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and a Connecticut town have been unable to come to a water services agreement after months of negotiations.

The tribe and North Stonington are trying to decide who will provide water to a tribal property where two golf courses are being completed. The agreement is needed before the courses can be opened, The New London Day says.

The town is upset that the tribe wants to make the agreement temporary and preserve its right to provide water to the property in the future. The town also opposes limits on its ability to take over the system.

The tribe had received state approval to be the sole provider to the Lake of Isles but it was revoked after an uproar from town leaders and state attorney general Richard Blumenthal.
