Oil company accused of not promoting Natives

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a claim against an oil company accused not promoting Alaska Natives and other minorities.

Alyeska Pipeline Services Co., a conglomerate of five oil companies, employees 247 minorities. The complaint says they were regularly passed over due to their race.

In the 1990s, the Interior Department ordered Alyeska to promise to hire and train more Alaska Natives. Secretary Gale Norton renewed the agreement last month.
