KOTA Territory News is profiling both candidates for president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. First up is Cecilia Fire Thunder.

Fire Thunder, a former nurse, would be the tribe's first woman president if elected. She calls herself a grass roots activist who brings people together.

�I have grass on my shoes. I've been here on this reservation since I came home and worked at the grass roots level and have taken things from ideas to completion,� she said.

Fire Thunder says she will work to resolve the tribe's financial situation. �Over and over, I've been told, get the finances, the financial situation, under control,� she said.

KOTA will profile rival candidate Russell Means in a second installment.
