Lumbee Tribe adopts budget with reduced salaries

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina approved a budget on Thursday that scales back a salary plan that had been criticized as too costly.

The budget reduces the proposed salaries for several staff positions. According to The Fayetteville Observer, the deputy administrator was cut from $93,500 to $75,000 and the finance director was cut from $105,942 to $75,000.

The tribe's overall budget remained at $26 million. Employees will receive a 3 to 4 percent salary increase and 10 positions will be added.
