Native Vote 2004 to monitor voting in several states
Monday, September 13, 2004

The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) and the Washington, D.C., Native American Bar Association are putting poll watchers in 13 states with significant Indian populations.

As part of the Native Vote 2004 effort, workers will monitor precincts both on and off the reservation. Volunteers will watch out for voting problems and provide non-partisan information to voters.

Poll watchers have been placed at South Dakota reservation precincts in recent elections and have stirred controversy over allegations that Indian voters were turned away from the polls.
