Pechanga Tribe resolves burial ground dispute

The Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians has settled a lawsuit over the disturbance of a burial ground in Temecula, California.

The tribe sued developer Temecula Creek Village and the city after workers uncovered remains and artifacts at a 32-acre site. But the tribe found out that state law doesn't protect sacred sites.

The settlement requires portions of a burial ground to be set aside as open space, The North County Times reported. The remains will be protected, a tribal attorney said.
