Louisiana lawmakers reject recognition for group


The Louisiana Senate voted 20-15 against state recognition for a group claiming Cherokee ancestry.

The Boeuf Cherokees agreed not to seek gaming for 99 years but lawmakers rejected the bill, saying state recognition could pave the way for federal status.
